Tyson Jones Produces Arizona's All-Time Best Shot Put at Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Super MeetPublished by
Jones becomes 11th prep athlete to surpass 69 feet in indoor shot put By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Dallas Long still boasts the oldest Arizona high school state outdoor track and field record with his shot put mark of 69 feet, 3 inches (21.10m), when he set a then-national prep record in 1958 competing for Phoenix North. But it appears it won't be long before Desert Edge senior Tyson Jones surpasses that record following his performance Saturday at the Dunamis Sports Group Indoor Super Meet at LakePoint Sports Championship Center in Emerson, Ga. Jones, a Virginia Tech signee, produced a national-leading effort of 69-7.50 (21.22m), the all-time best performance by an Arizona high school thrower. Jones elevated to No. 11 in prep history indoors, with the top 10 athletes all surpassing 70 feet. His outdoor personal best remains 67-6.50 (20.58m), which Jones achieved in May at last year's Division 2 state final. That performance ranks second in Arizona outdoor history behind Long. Joshua Sobota, a senior at Bearden TN, took runner-up Saturday to Jones with a mark of 67-3.25 (20.50m), the second-best indoor effort in the country this season. More news |
